Ken Wilkie was born in the Scottish city of Dundee on the River Tay. An only child, he was educated at the High School of Dundee from the age of 5 to 19. His mother’s family (Morris-Bruce) came from St Andrews where the family spent the summer holidays playing golf, albeit it without realising they were directly related to the golf icon Tom Morris, the many-times Open Champion and designer of the Old Course.
